Kingdom aims for $13.3B GDP boost and 39,000 gaming jobs as over 2,000 players from 100+ nations compete in the largest global esports tournament ever staged
Saudi Arabia has officially opened the world’s largest Esports World Cup (EWC) in Riyadh, underscoring its bold ambitions to become a global epicenter of gaming, esports, and entertainment. The monumental event features a staggering $70 million prize pool — the highest in esports history — and is expected to significantly fuel the Kingdom’s economic and employment goals.
With over 2,000 elite players representing more than 100 countries, the 2025 EWC has transformed Riyadh into a vibrant digital battleground. Audiences around the world will be able to follow the action with 7,000 hours of tournament content broadcast across more than 100 countries and in over 30 languages.
The tournament is a cornerstone of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 strategy, which positions gaming as a key pillar of its cultural and economic diversification. The Esports World Cup Foundation projects the event will contribute $13.3 billion to Saudi Arabia’s GDP and create more than 39,000 new jobs in the country’s rapidly expanding gaming ecosystem.
“This isn’t just about competition — it’s about opportunity,” said an EWC official. “Saudi Arabia is investing in the future of entertainment and innovation, and this event is our boldest statement yet.”
The month-long spectacle features dozens of the most popular esports titles, sprawling fan zones, immersive exhibitions, and cultural activations across Riyadh. The event is not only a celebration of esports but also a broader showcase of Saudi Arabia’s growing influence in tech, tourism, and global pop culture.
As the Kingdom raises the bar for global gaming events, the Esports World Cup is poised to become a cornerstone on the international calendar, drawing players, fans, and investors alike to Riyadh’s thriving digital frontier.
