Sheikh Hamdan Approves AED500 Million Master Plan to Transform Umm Suqeim Beach

A future-ready public destination blending Emirati identity, accessibility, and world-class amenities, including a 38-metre observation tower and expanded parking

Dubai is set to further elevate its coastline with the approval of a AED500 million (US$136.15 million) master plan to redevelop Umm Suqeim Beach, reinforcing the emirate’s commitment to creating world-class, inclusive public spaces.

The ambitious plan has been approved by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai. The project forms part of Dubai Municipality’s broader strategy to enhance and modernise public beaches across the emirate, ensuring they meet global standards while remaining deeply rooted in local culture.

A Future-Ready Beach for All

The redevelopment of Umm Suqeim Beach is designed to deliver universal appeal, catering to residents, tourists, families, and people of determination. The project aims to create a seamless balance between leisure, accessibility, sustainability, and cultural expression, positioning the beach as a standout urban destination.

Central to the plan is the creation of a distinctive Emirati identity, reflected in architectural elements, landscaping, and public facilities that celebrate local heritage while embracing contemporary design.

Landmark Features and Enhanced Infrastructure

Among the most striking additions to the redeveloped beach will be a 38-metre observation tower, offering panoramic views of the Arabian Gulf and Dubai’s iconic skyline. The tower is expected to become a new landmark along the coastline, enhancing the visitor experience and reinforcing the beach’s status as a premier destination.

The master plan also includes expanded parking facilities, addressing growing visitor demand and improving overall accessibility. Enhanced infrastructure will support smoother traffic flow and more convenient access for beachgoers, contributing to a more enjoyable and stress-free experience.

Part of a Wider Vision

Dubai Municipality’s AED500 million investment in Umm Suqeim Beach reflects the emirate’s wider vision to redefine public spaces through thoughtful planning, long-term sustainability, and community-focused design. The redevelopment aligns with Dubai’s urban development goals, which prioritise quality of life, environmental responsibility, and inclusive access to recreational areas.

By transforming Umm Suqeim Beach into a future-ready destination, the project underscores Dubai’s ongoing efforts to position its coastline not just as a leisure asset, but as a vital component of the city’s social, cultural, and environmental fabric.

A New Chapter for Dubai’s Coastline

Once completed, the redeveloped Umm Suqeim Beach is expected to set a new benchmark for public beach design in the region—combining modern amenities, cultural authenticity, and accessibility for all. The project stands as another example of Dubai’s forward-looking approach to urban development, where investment in public spaces plays a central role in shaping a vibrant, livable city.
