With a projected Dhs56 billion in total benefits, Dubai’s Blue Line will redefine connectivity across residential and commercial hubs, paving the way for a more sustainable, accessible, and integrated city.
In a historic moment for Dubai’s future-focused infrastructure, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, officially laid the foundation stone for the first station of the Dubai Metro Blue Line — signaling the beginning of one of the city’s most ambitious transit expansions to date.
Announced through Sheikh Mohammed’s official X account, the groundbreaking marks a major milestone in a visionary project set to enhance urban mobility, reduce congestion, and further Dubai’s evolution into a smart, sustainable global city.
An Architectural and Urban Milestone
Stretching 30 kilometers and incorporating 14 stations, the Dubai Metro Blue Line will link vital residential and commercial districts, including Dubai Creek Harbour, Festival City, Mirdif, and Dubai Silicon Oasis. With this extension, the total length of Dubai’s metro network will reach 131 kilometers across 78 stations, reinforcing the emirate’s status as a regional leader in smart transit solutions.
The line’s design is a blend of form and function. A signature station at Dubai Creek Harbour, designed by world-renowned architects Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM), will serve as both a transport hub and an architectural landmark. This iconic station is expected to accommodate 160,000 passengers daily by 2040, underscoring its importance within the city’s broader urban framework.
A Vision for the Future: Connectivity, Efficiency, and Sustainability
The Blue Line is more than a metro extension — it’s a key component of Dubai’s strategic urban development, fully integrated with the “20-Minute City” initiative, which aims to make 80% of essential services accessible within 20 minutes.
The route will feature a mix of underground and elevated tracks, including three major interchange stations:
- Al Khor (Green Line)
- Centrepoint (Red Line)
- International City (1)
In a first for the Dubai Metro system, the Blue Line will cross Dubai Creek via a 1,300-metre bridge, offering a new visual landmark and enhancing connectivity between historically separated urban zones.
Delivering Tangible Economic and Social Benefits
Expected to generate Dhs56 billion in total benefits, the Blue Line is poised to:
- Reduce traffic congestion by 20% in key urban areas
- Increase property values near stations by up to 25%
- Shorten travel times across neighborhoods to just 10–25 minutes
- Directly connect key hubs such as Dubai International Airport (DXB) with residential zones
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) projects that the Blue Line will serve nearly 1 million residents by 2040, especially in booming developments like Dubai Creek Harbour, Festival City, and International City.
According to Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the RTA, “This line reflects our commitment to building a city where efficient, sustainable, and inclusive mobility is not just a vision, but a reality.”
Looking Ahead
As the foundation stone is laid, the Dubai Metro Blue Line stands as a symbol of the city’s progressive mindset and world-class planning. It demonstrates how infrastructure, when aligned with long-term urban strategies, can transform daily life, stimulate economic growth, and inspire global admiration.
With an unwavering focus on accessibility, design, and innovation, the Blue Line will not only reshape Dubai’s transit map — it will help shape the future of the city itself.
